This time last week, Summit Platforms engineering apprentice Megan Campbell was out supporting the Women in Powered Access initiative at the Vertikal Days 2022 event.

This initiative, launched by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) aims to recognise and celebrate the contributions of women in powered access and support career pathways for women already in the industry and for those looking to enter it.

IPAF president Karin Nars, the first women to be elected into the role back in March, wants every woman no matter their age to feel supported should they wish to work in the powered access industry and be inspired by the thousands of women already making a positive impact.

Supporting women in powered access is something Summit Platforms has always done across all disciplines, from working on the hire desk, to sales, engineering and management.
Last year, Summit Platforms launched its IPAF Level 3 Lift Truck and Powered Access Technician apprenticeship scheme, with one of the successful candidates being Megan Campbell, based at the Newcastle depot.

Megan was happy to lend her support to IPAF at their stand at Vertikal Days, speaking to visitors and sharing her experience in the powered access industry.

Megan said: “My experience at Vertikal Days was great and I was proud to join the IPAF stand, networking with new people and learning more about the powered access industry. It was a busy but rewarding day and I loved representing Summit Platforms.

I wanted to support this IPAF initiative to show that so much is being done to support the future generation of engineers.
It would be great to see more females entering a mainly male dominated industry and for there to be the role models to lead the way.”

Vertikal Days is Europe’s largest show focused specifically on powered access, cranes and lifting equipment. The 2022 event was held on the 11th and 12th of May at the East of England Showground in Peterborough. Exhibitors from all over the world attended to showcase all types of powered access from boom lifts, scissor lifts and spider lifts to mobile cranes, mini cranes and telescopic handlers.
