Summit Platforms has relocated its South West region powered access and telehandler rental operation to a larger depot to provide the extra space and facilities needed for continued growth.

The company’s Bristol depot has moved to a one-acre site with a 15,000 ft purpose-prepared refurbished storage, workshop, training and office building in Avonmouth.

Summit Platforms Director James Watson said: “We’d outgrown our previous premises and needed extra space to meet growing demand for our services in the South West and South Wales.

“The region has many exciting opportunities for growth, including Hinkley Point C and the new gigafactory to be built at Bridgewater. These projects, and others coming on stream, are driving business confidence in the region.”

Room to grow

Since Summit Platforms opened in Avonmouth in 2015 it has grown its South West region fleet to more than 900 access platforms and JCB telescopic handlers.

James Watson said: “With more space, we can expand in terms of capacity and capability. I expect our Bristol depot hire fleet to increase beyond 1,000 units in the coming months.

“The fleet is made up of machines from 4m to 44m, with booms, scissor lifts, low-level access platforms and JCB telescopic handlers, the vast majority being low or zero emission.

“This extensive fleet means we also have the right machines for each application and in the quantities needed.

“Another big advantage of moving to these new premises was to give the team a first-class working environment, matching our other locations around the country. It also gives us room to continue to grow the team across all disciplines, including, hire desk, engineering and logistics.”

First class IPAF training

Summit Platform’s Bristol operation has developed a reputation for providing quality equipment and unrivalled services across South Wales and the South West to a large number of regional and national customers.

In addition, it has provided equipment to many of the region’s major construction and infrastructure projects, including working on Hinkley Point C, the new nuclear power station being built by EDF Energy.

The move has also allowed Summit Platforms to expand its IPAF training offer for customers, with a first class facility to deliver the full range of IPAF courses.

Summit Platforms operates 10 depots across the UK. It aims to match the most modern and capable platforms with highly-responsive customer service to meet the demands of its customers on both a national and local level across all sectors.
